| 7290 - No phone/browser after upgrade to os 4.0 Please Login to Remove! Hi,
I am new to the BB world when I got my 7290 from cingular about 10 days ago. I only wanted a phone, email and IM (AOL & Yahoo), seemed pretty simple. I was able to download my outlook which included all my phone numbers and email addresses, so I was almost good to go.
Cingular's website really left allot to be desired when it comes to downloads or any information about IM. But I decided to download the xmessage software, which almost loaded completely, but not quit.
I then went to cingular no-service and after 4 days of frustration, decided to download a newer OS (v4.0.0.219 (Platform 1.8.0.129) from the BB download page to see if that would help me out.
Once that was completed, I no longer had a browser icon or a phone icon.
I can not make or receive phone calls or browse the web. The device also doesn't ring when I call it nor does anything happen when I push the phone button on top of the device. A few more icons also disappeared, but not real concerned about that.
Back to Cingular no-service, who has adviced me to reinstall the original OS from the CD that came with the phone and start over.
That may be the right direction, but I just wanted to get a second opinion first. Also, I have come to the conclusion that I may need some 3rd party software for IM to work like I expect it to work. I have briefly looked at a few threads here.
My question there does it matter to Cingular how I am accessing my IM for billing? Would using a 3rd party just make it data and not "text messaging"?
TIA,
