Default SureType Additional Languages

Please Login to Remove!

Did anybody figure out how to enable additional languages for SureType? I have a 7100g from Cingular in the US and haven't been able to figure out how to add support for spanish. Any help or pointers will be appreciated. Both Cingular and BlackBerry haven't been helpful at all.

Thanks in advance,

Hernan

Bumping an old thread because I would like Spanish SureType on my 7105t so that I can message easier to my dad (who has a Sidekick II).

After several months of searching, finally found the answer in one of these forums. Basically, you need to install the OS v4.0 for the 7100v even if you're using 7100g (from Vodafone UK, see here) which has multilanguage support including spanish among other languages (be sure to remove or rename the Vendor.xml as described in the referenced forum).

Awesome. Thanks! Were you successful when you uploaded it to your 7100?

Does anyone know whether I can safely download this OS v4.0 for the 7100v onto my 7100t? I also want the Spanish Sure-Type.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you.

I just tried installing this Vodafone version of the software on a 7100g, but after following the installation instructions (including the removal of Vendor.xml), I still don't have the ability to select Spanish SureType. All I see is US English and UK English.

Is there something special that has to be done, besides simply upgrading the software? For example, perhaps should I somehow erase the existing software first?

Thanks.

Settings->Language->Input Method->, can you see the Spanish input? if not, go to your blackberry desktop manager, select application loader, check whether there is Spanish language support available, if yes, select it and install, otherwise, you have to find another multi-language version, if still not, I cannot help you.

Thank you very much.

Well, the only input methods I have are for "english" and "english (United States)", in each of the SureType and multi-tap modes.

Nor do I see Spanish language support in my desktop manager, but maybe I'm missing something. Where would I see a mention of this Spanish language support in the desktop manager?

Well, I tried again, this time completely uninstalling anything that had to do with the BlackBerry from my desktop computer before installing the Vodafone stuff. Then, I once again followed the procedure above, and this time, it worked! I now have Spanish language SureType, along with English.

I noticed that the Vodafone software is not quite as up to date as the Cingular version, because the Application loader listed the basic BlackBerry software as a downgrade. But it all seems to work fine, and in any case, the Spanish SureType is more important to me than any slight upgrades to the basic software.

So, all's well that ends well. Thanks for all your help.

Default Step-by-Step instructions for installing additional suretype languages on the Pearl

After spending a whole weekend wrecking my brain about how to do this, and after some helpful hints from this forum, I decided to write down Step-by-Step instructions for installing additional suretype languages on the T-Mobile Pearl. It may work with other blackberrys but I have not been able to test this.

1.) Make sure you have the most recent version of the Blackberry Desktop Application installed on your PC.

2) Disconnect yout Pearl. Quit "Blackberry Desktop Manager". Uninstall the device software from the PC. The uninstall option is located in your PC's control panel. It should have the model number of your Mlackberry in the file name (i.e. 8100 in the case of the Pearl). Note: you may not have the device software installed, if this is the case you are good to proceed with 3).

3) Go to the Vodafone download location mentioned earlier in the forum. Download and install the new device software. Be sure to choose the "multi-lingual" version. After the install, use your PC's file search function and locate the vendor.xml file. DELETE IT.

4) Run the Blackberry Desktop Manager. Connect your Pearl. After a while, a window will pop up noting that there are OS Updates for your Pearl. Please confirm the update and go through the whole installation process. This make take an hour or so to complete, it makes backups etc. When prompted, you can select the additional software packages and languages to install. Choose from the list - in my case I wanted to add German.

5) When finished, take your Pearl and go to Options -> Languages to verify the installation of the new language.

That's it!
