Dropping a call and data coverage do not have much in common...
When you are unable to browse the internet, check 2 things.
1) Ensure you have a 1XEV at the top of the screen.
2) Navigate to Options -> Status, and check the signal strength.
If you are at a range of -90dBm to -110dBm at the time of your issue, then you are not maintaining a strong data connection. Reason being: the area you are located in.
