I have been using this forums for years but never post really until now. I just got the 8820. My SD is locked due to IT policy in which they will nto disable. So what i did was create a back up of my device. then i wiped it put in the default policy then connected to DM then i transfered over my movies music videos etc.. then i restored my backup that has all my work information and connected to the BES and got the IT policy back in place. And i can play everything on the card just can not write to it. I was wondering do i have to use Roxio to move over the videos to the microsd? if so i have to keep wiping and restoring in which that is time consuming.

Did you ever consider that your IT Department has restricted the use of the SD card for a reason?
Perhaps you should speak to them about your activities. I think they'd be interested to know about your efforts to circumvent their security measures.

i did explain to them. they disabled storage because they do not want BB users to store emails on there. that is the only reason i asked 4 BES admins and that is why they do it. but i stated to them that i can change the options to never delete emails on the BB and it will hold as many emails as it can. And that option to do that is not disabled so it is sort of pointless to disable mass storage. now what i have on my sd is some music yes but it is most documents that i use for work pdf files and doc and txt fils.

Sorry, but I find it extremely hard to believe that 4 BES admins would tell you this, since any BES admin would know that it is absolutely not possible to store messages on the SD card in the first place.

i agree with penguin here. there is a reason for the IT policy, and continued attempts to get it around it might lead to some unpleasant actions by your job. as for the email storage... that seems highly unlikely, since you can keep thousands of emails on the device as is, not to mention you can just forward the emails out. i suspect it has nothing to do with email.

just because they told you that doesnt make it the real reason, that is what i am getting to in my post. people say something all the time, and while they may pass that off as the 'real' reason, i suspect it is not.

If your BES admins did tell you this... then they're just blowing smoke up your behind and not telling you the real reason they're restricting use of the SD card.

In the end, it's the same for you, and you should stop trying to circumvent your company policies. You're not going to get any help in doing so from the people here.

Regarding the request in ticket number IM581696, "User wants to know if the policy can be removed to have him enable the Mass storage Mode on blackberry."

The settings for Mass storage Mode are dictated by the Security department of (my company) The decision was made to prevent the Blackberries from being used for long term mass storage of email. This decision is similar to the decision that mail older than 60 days in your Outlook inbox would be deleted.

This is a company wide policy and is not possible to change it at this time.

well i would caution against posting an email from your company IT department. it might very well be considered confidential.

that is fine i merely asked was there another way to use the 4gb card i bought in the blackberry to hold my documents that was all.

what documents do you want to hold? you can just use a card reader on your computer if this is what you want to do. load up some documents on there, put it back in your device, and away you go.

If your IT staff disabled mass storage, they have a reason and you should just live with it. Whether or not they are telling you why doesn't matter. Stop trying to circumvent their security policies. If you need to have your docs or video or music, go get an iTouch and sync it every night with whatever you want. If your bb is a company owned device, they have every right to restrict anything and everything.

Ignoring your IT policy - can't you get an external card reader and just use Windows Explorer to drag/drop items to the card - you would have to have them in the correct format before using drag/drop.
