Default How to setup GMail for BB

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to find an alternative solution to getting my Internet Email also on my BB8830 especially since I'll be going overseas soon. I have a hotmail account and discovered I can't use it but was told that I could do it with GMail. I have now a Gmail acct. How can I setup my BB8830 to retrieve/send thru my GMail acct?

You can setup GMail through BIS by using the Setup Internet Email icon on your home screen. Or you can install the GMail application on your device and access it that way.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

If you set up g-mail through BIS, you will need to also see this link below.
HOW-TO: Prevent G-mail "Sent Items" from being sent to your handheld.

I've set all the settings like Google says to on their website.

Enter email address only on the username.
Server is imap.gmail.com
Port 993
SSL checked

But, I'm not getting the almost instant notification on my phone that every talks about. It still takes around 10 minutes to get an email on my phone.

Did I do the setup wrong?

you shouldn't have to do any settings manually if you set up through BIS or are yo using the gmail app?

just use the set up email icon and it should work. don't need any server entering just your email address and password.

I am with Mike on this. There is no special server setting whether you use BIS or separate APP.

Username and Password and go.

I just setup a Blackberry (if you use BIS) email address and forward a copy of my gmail to it. It works very fast and keeps the copy in the gmail inbox.
