Default 8800 battery life & keyboard

Please Login to Remove!

Just got the message below from one of my users. Have never used an 8800, but it seems odd that the keyboard stays on even when the device is turned off. Any ideas?! In case it helps - the device was bought new in November 2007, so battery is nearly 6 months old.

-----------------
I am currently in Dubai and seem to have a serious problem with the BB battery which does not last more than 5 to 6 hours. This problems started at the end of last week and I have not really changed anything and I still do not use the BB as a phone.

The only thing I noticed as that even when I switch off the BB the keyboard lights seem to stay on. I tried going into 'settings' but could not figure out what was wrong. Please let me know if their is something I can do to resolve the problem as I am not back in London until next week.

Switch your backlight/timeout in your screen/keyboard settings to 10 seconds and see if that triggers anything.

What are your auto on/off settings? They should be disabled as well.

I'll ask the user. It's not actually my device, I have a Pearl, it is one of my users who is currently in Dubai (I'm in London )

Just saw the device today.

The keyboard backlight on the device has developed a problem - it will never turn off. The screen backlight will go off at the appropriate time-out setting as specified in the Options section of the device, however the trackball and keyboard stay permanently illuminated. This means that the battery drains too quickly for the device to be usable.

I can confirm that there are no third party applications on the device with independent backlight settings, and also the GPS native application is set to only override automatic backlight time-out when batter is at 100%, so that is not the cause either. I guess this is a hardware fault.

Tried all manner of backlight timeouts - I cannot make the trackball light go off ever! Gah.

If new in November 2007 it should be covered by a hardware warranty.

Default Same problem here, out of warranty

Any ideas? Keyboard and trackball light will not go off. It even is staying on while the unit is in the holster.

Mine was a hardware fault, tried everything (resetting BB, wiping, reloading OS) and in the end had to swap the device under warranty
