Default Stand-by

Hello,
I have perhaps some stupid questions. I just started using my 8700 2 weeks ago and we're still getting acquainted.
I have seen lots of references to stand-by mode but nowhere does it say how to activate it. can anyone please enlighten me?

I would like to increase my battery life and would also like to know if there is some way to disable the dreaded Emergency call.
I'm afraid it will make a call when it's in it's holster and also hate that it wastes battery every time the menu comes up.

it would also be nice to be able to turn the key lock warning off. another waste of battery every time any key is accidentally pressed. After the first 50 times we know how to unlock it right?

will stand-by help with this?

Thanks,

-Mike

Although I cant answer all your questions and I do not remember all the tips and tricks from my 8700 days, I can help you with one.

Instead of disabling the emergency call, go to your Call Menu Options and turn "Hang up when Holstered" On. That way it can not make any calls "by accident" when in the holster.

I have an aftermarket holster. will this still work?

It seems to still be active after I put it away

Thanks,

Is it made for a Blackberry? Any idea if it has the magnet that puts it to "sleep"? What holster is it?

Correct, that case does not have the magnet in it.

You would really benefit by having one with the sleeper magnet.

There has to be a manual way to put it to sleep without the magnet. no?

You can't disable the Emergency DIal feature.

You can put the phone into standbym mode by pressing and holding the button on the top edge of the device.

I have an 8700c running 4.2 and the Mute button at the top of the phone only changes the profile from normal to vibrate and vice versa. There is no standby as far as I can tell. Is there something I can do to put the phone in standby mode?

Welcome to BBF. Unfortunatley, there is no standby mode for your 8700.

There should be enough room in the back of the case, between the clip and the case (where a belt would go, as shown on the Nite Ize site, to have the case horizontal) to slip in a magnet. I have a different Nite Ize case and slipped a magnet in there.
