the scroll ball on my phone won't select anything. It will scroll from side to side or up and down but when I push it down, nothing happens. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem other than taking it in. I leave for a cruise tomorrow and do not have the time to get it serviced.

A quick search woul dhave found an answer almost immediately.

Do you carry the BB in your pocket? This seems to be a common issue with people who do. Dirt and lint from your pocket can get caught and make the trackball inoperative in one direction or more.

Turn off the BB. Press and hold the trackball and roll it, first in the direction that doesn't work and then in all directions. This will help dislodge what ever is causing the problem. Then get a can of compressed air, press the ball and spray all around it. Finally, dip a q-tip in alcohol and clean the ball.

Turn the BB back on and it should work. Get a holster and DO NOT carry the BB in your pocket.

If this doesn't fix the problem, then you most likely have a defective device.

You can always pop out the outer ring of the tracker ball and remove the ball and rollers. It operates like and old style computer mouses. Clean the ball and rollers and pop it back together. Be very careful as the bits are small.

I don't know about that device but on my 8830 the ENTER key will also select highlighted items - if it works on that device it might be a work-around???

I had the same problem on my 8830 and I keep it in a holster. I just turned it off and restarted the device and all is well.
