I have an 8703e with the 4.2 OS loaded. Something happened today and I am not sure if it was a coincidence or if it happened by design. Aside from my corporate email, I have my Gmail account tied to my device. Overnight, I got about 5 emails, but they didn't show up on my device. It was in quiet mode. The moment I changed the profile from quiet to loud, all 5 of the messages showed up.

I'm still getting used to the 4.2 OS, and I'm wondering if this was just a weird timing issue where the mail had an issue overnight and started up again at that time, or there is a setting somewhere that holds off on delivering messages while in quiet mode.

No. The profiles cannot stop e-mail. Only the means of notification which may suffice for you BIS Server was down during the night.

RIM was down 2am-6am EDT and took a while for everything to catch up.
