Do you have another charger you can try? Have you tried popping the battery out and back in?

Matrix 05-27-2008 03:09 PM

I tried doing that aswell as trying it out with a spare battery, the computer also does not recognize the blackberry anymore. The battery says 3.7V on it but the charger says 5V, is this what the problem is, did i fry my phone? I read the people use their razr chargers to charge the BB just fine and i know the razr charger is 5v so if they didn't fry theirs what happened to mine?

juwaack68 05-27-2008 03:10 PM

Do you have a wall charger you can try out? I use my husbands Razr charger on my device once in a while and haven't had any issues.

Matrix 05-27-2008 03:12 PM

No i dont have a wall charger, im gonna get my friends razr charger tonight to see if it works, but the only charger i have is a blackberry charger that says 5V, 0.5A on it, i hope this helps. By what i'm reading on the internet there should be no reason why teh blackberry would be fried, but i am wondering then why does the computer not recognize the phone anymore.

Do you have Desktop Manager installed on your PC?

Matrix 05-27-2008 03:15 PM

yes i have desktop manager, the thing is when i plug in my blackberry (its off) and the little led no longer turns on at all, and the computer doesnt even say "detected new hardware" or w.e its like its completely dead

Have you tried another blackberry on your computer? Did you break the usb plug on the handheld (tripping over the cord or something)?

Matrix 05-27-2008 03:30 PM

No phone looks perfectly fine, the usb port looks intact, i did not trip over the cord or anything it is brand new and i have been extremely careful. However i tried the blackberry on 4 other computers in my house and none of them even recognize it as a device, and the little led at the top right no longer turn on when i plug in the phone into the wall or i not the computer. However i found out on the internet that the charger i used is just a standard blackberry charger and they are all the same, so i couldent have fried it, what else could be the problem?

RaysDarts 05-27-2008 04:21 PM

Did you bend any of the pins inside of the charger port?

nobody7290 05-27-2008 05:01 PM

All usb chargers are the same. If you damaged the Device with the charger, its not your fault, but a problem with the charger. I would not use it until you find out what really happend.

- The BB does not run without a battery, regardless if the charger is connected or not. I would try to look inside the battery compartment if something is missing or broken.
- Try a known good, charged battery (but, I think you tried this already)
- It might help also a little to remove the battery and let the BB pause for about an hour.
- Remove any additional memory card
- Remove SIM card
- Try to check if all keys are working ok and not stuck.

Check the battery contacts -- are there 4 contacts? Sometimes it's not working because one of the contacts in the battery bay is broken or bent. Caused by trying to jam in a battery the wrong way around.

i feel so bad, you came to the right place for help.

Is there a way to fix the charger contact if it does get damaged?

I believe the BB has to be turned on for the computer to recognize it if I'm not mistaken. It might not be possible to turn it on though if your battery is dead and your charger isn't providing power. But at least this would explain why the computers aren't recognizing it.

The BB should "semi" start with no battery when you plug it into your PC or a USB charger (that you know works). The LED will light red for a short moment then you will see a battery symbol with a red light through it on the screen.

And all USB chargers are not the same, the BB charger triggers pin 2 to allow the BB unit to switch on its internal charging circuit, that why some USB chargers don't work and others do. There is no issue regarding the 3.7V and using a 5V charger, your PC outputs 5V like most if not all USB chargers.

There is a way to reboot your BB from the PC if it is not recognised by your PC and I'm fairly sure it requires you to remove the battery to perform the reboot/reload.

I will look for a link and post it shortly.

The other thing you can try if not already mentioned is remove the SD card then try again, I've had mine got into a reboot cycle with a bad SD card.

Thank you for this clarification.
I know that some chargers do not work, but I did not know why.
