...to sync and charge my 8830? I sync to two computers, and have a bunch of USB chords now... can I use one of these or do I need to buy one specific to the BB?

Any standard mini USB cable should work. I use the cables from my BlackBerry, digital camera and MP3 player interchangeably.

My experience is... if it works use it, if it doesn't, don't.

For example, users here say some USB cables from their camera will work, and from their old Moto Razr will work. So yes you can use those that work. Some cables won't work, for some reason, to hold the electrical current needed to charge, but might work to sync and backup.

LOL.. Sounds like the type I would give! I was mostly concerned about frying the battery or something. I'll give it a whirl and keep an eye out for smoke!

EDIT: I used the cable from a Garmin GPS... sync was fine, battery seems to be charging. No smoke.

I have a lot of extras I test them out and 99% of the the they work with no problems

I've used other cables with mine, but they will not charge my phone from the computer.
