Default 7290 to 8700 upgrade. Improvement?

Hi all.

I'm currently using 7290 and I'm happy with it. Does everything and reliable with no lock ups/restarts. I use it for phone calls, extensive SMS(means a lot of SMS), PIM and read ebooks on it. Everything is fine, except it is very slow to access application folder and SMS functions. SMS functions are really frustrating because it's the most function I use. I press "open" and have to wait a while to open up to view single line text. :(

Does 8700 have faster speed overall? I want it to happen instantly when I press a button. Sick of waiting for something to happen. Also some ebooks I have is over 14mb in size. Obviously my 7290 will come up with error when I try to transfer. Does it allow to save my ebooks on flash memory card? I use mobipocket reader.

And is there anyway I can play MP3 on it? Another thing I'm wondering is does back light comes up whenever I press any keys/buttons? Because it was royal pain in the ass that I have to press "Backlight" button on 7290, rather than it just lights up when I press any keys.(when it is not locked obviously)

Thank you.

The 8700 will be a big improvement over the 7290. Much faster. However, it won't do your eBooks. It will do some (2-3) small mp3's but not much more than that. It's not really a media device. You need a newer 83xx, 88xx or 81xx device that has a media card. Even then I'm not sure about the eBooks. If the eBooks have to have the book stored on device memory then it's a no go. If the eBooks will store to the SD card then it would work.

Agreed on the 8700, a good stable device, but you'll want to find a model like a Curve 8300 with a media card and a program that will allow eBooks stored on media card rather than device memory. I know I have read of a couple that do, check out Rove products and maybe Beiks.
