Question USCC and various data programs

Please Login to Remove!

I've got my 8830 on the USCC network (they use the older style network, GSM, I think? It's the one less used, and less loved...)

Anyways. I'm curious if my problems are network related.
If someone calls me when I've got incoming data (email, jivetalk, google messenger, etc) the call drops DIRECTLY to VM, without letting me know.
Frankly it ruins my day consistantly.

Also, If I make a call longer than X minutes, all of the data apps drop their connections, on a timeout. I guess the phone can't deal with data and voice at the same time.
Anyways, NONE of these applications have an auto-re-sign-in option, and I remain offline to the world until I happen to notice, which is a major PITA. (because sometimes it's over a day!)

Are there solutions to this? Does it happen on all networks? I'm stuck with USCC, but I'm not impressed with this lack of data capability...

I hate to say this, but GSM isn't less loved or less used. More places use GSM than CDMA. US Cellular is CDMA and it is probably less used, but I doubt less loved.

CDMA, that's the one. I knew it wasn't evdo.

Anyways, is this expected behavior? I'm not sure I could justify paying for jivetalk if it's going to drop every time I receive a call, is all. Is something wrong with my phone, or am I simply expecting too much?
