So I have been trying to determine what is the best OS for my 8700c. I tried (unsuccessfully) to upgrade to v.4.5.0.37, and am currently running ATT's officially released v.4.2.1.96 (platform 2.3.0.79). I have read about mixed experiences on the 8700 with OS 4.5 and was curious for people's thoughts as to whether I should continue to beat my head against a wall trying to upgrade, or rather remain content with the version of 4.2 I am on. I do use Google Maps, and would be sad to see that not working in 4.5. (Similarly - any significant benefits to upgrading to a newer version of 4.2?)

I am pretty new to this (i just figured out to upgrade from OS 4.1 last week), so your feedback is appreciated.

its a waste of time. phone hangs when you try to open any app. even calc!
very poor performance. graphics in phonebook.

i wanna go back to 4.2 and hope that i will be able to

4.2.1.114 is very stable (no battery pulls)
Google Maps 2.2.1 with voice search works great
