| 8830 OS v4.5.51 (rel74) works awesome now. Please Login to Remove! Hey Everyone...
In an effort to get voice notes and playlists, I made the dangerous move to upgrade to os v4.5. I initially used a previous version of v4.5 (4.4.0.33 (rel 48)) and all hell broke loose. (at first the upgrade failed totally with a reset 564 error during the inital reboot (I had to fix this using JL CMder and delete a couple of the themes), then once installed I had java.lang errors from gmail, google maps, weathereye home icon issues, phone issues etc.).
I then upgraded to v4.5.51 (rel74) and its glorious. The secrets of success are:
1) delete vendor.xml file (I knew this for the first install too)
2) install documents to go, even though its not included as default.
3) save all downloaded themes using jl_cmder before doing the upgrade. Themes and 4.5 sometimes might cause problems.
I have no problems with 4.5 now...knock on wood! | Offline

Don't expect a direct answer post here on this. I would just google for what you need. It is against forums policy to post a direct answer for that. | Offline

| I find that my 8830 is a bit slugish with v4.5.0.51. Maybe that is just me. I only have 1.3 megabytes free though. Other than that I absolutely love it. It is by far the best software that I have had on my 8830.
I love that I can now use youtube mobile, voicenotes, and documents to go.

| When you installed it, did it also install the MMS app? It did for me, along with the MMS profile setting and MMS configuration option. Sadly, MMS doesn't work since Verizon doesn't sent the right service book. So... anyone know if it can be removed in order to save some memory?
Cheers!

| Do you have to match this beta with an appropriate version of Desktop Manager? I would not want to lose my ability to sync and backup data nor install applications. While I've seen and actually downloaded the 8830 beta (but not installed) I've not seen the DM companion. | Offline

| I installed 4.5..0.51 about 30 minutes ago. So far, everything is running smooth. Installation took approximately 20 - 25 minutes.
I love the new browser. And the documents to go....

| What was the difference in the amount of initial memory you have now compared to the previous version?

I did notice the wireless upgrade has been added. If you go to options - advanced options, there is a wireless upgrade. Will RIM be supporting OS upgrades OTA?

| I just installed 4.5.0.51 and so far it is working well. It's obviously a little slower than 4.2, but its not quite as noticeable as the jump from 3.7 to 4.0. | Offline

try it. It will only work on the 8830 running the 4.5.051 though. | Offline

| Hello, I'm still using the old 4.2 ver. Question for a newbie here if I upgrade to this new 4.5.0.51 version where can I get it from and if it's still in the Beta stage will it be safe for me to make the upgrade?
Thanks in advance! | Offline

Uh... so is mine... That is odd. It was on there, now it's missing or maybe I was heavily intoxicated when I saw it and it was somewhere else....
