Default Wifi/UMA kills data connection...

Please Login to Remove!

Whenever I turn wifi on, after a short amount of time, UMA becomes uma and I'm no longer able to use any apps that need a data connection. turning wifi off sees gsm become EDGE (via GSM/edge)...

I've got an 8820 with 4.5.0.52.

It might be the 'hotspot browser' that does something to it, as it's saying UMA now and doesn't seem to be changing...

(oops no, just ran Twitter app and it's gone back to uma)

Does anyone know what the problem is? I don't usually have wifi on, only to download programs, so it's not generally a big deal.

Did this just start happening, or has it been ongoing since you got the device? What router are you using?

Did you just upgrade to 4.5.0.52? I just did and also note that the BB Browser no longer seems to work with WiFi. The Browser configuration now has something called 'Hotspot Browser' (old version used to have something called 'WiFi Browser). WiFi does seem to work with other apps (ex. Opera) but I can't get it to work with the BB Browser - always fails.

Hotspot Browser = wifi browser.

I have a netgear router. I'm not sure if this is a new problem, because I haven't played around with UMA/wifi too much. But could the router setup really cause the phone to go from EDGE to gprs (i.e. not even GPRS).

@dmacd
I've got the Hotspot browser working fine with wifi on and mobile connection off.

I have rebooted the BB a few times (ex. after installing updates to DocsToGo) and the BB Browser now seems to work with WiFi. Must have been a minor glitch.

You don't need to restart, just turn wifi off. At least, that works for me.

That helps for sure, but would be nice to use wifi for that crap, at least at home

Well, Opera and Hotspot browser do work fine over wifi. I'm not sure what other apps are able to...
