| Please help, attempting to tether 8800 via Rogers Wireless Please Login to Remove! Hi,
I've been reading through numerous FAQs and other threads on this topic. I need a bit of help and I'm hoping someone can point out what I've done wrong.
I'm trying to connect the following together: ThinkPad T61 w/Bluetooth, MS Windows XP Pro, BB Desktop Manager 4.5, BB 8800 running 4.5.055 (81), on the Rogers Wireless network here in Canada.
I've paired the 8800 successfully via BT to the ThinkPad without any problems. It's connected as Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link on COM6. All default settings except for the Extra Settings line which I have as cgdcont=1,"IP","internet.com"
Next I created a standard Dial Up Connecting using the modem above. With the following changes to default settings:
Phone Number: *99#
Use IP header compression: OFF
I have all blank fields on the 8800 under Options/Advanced Options/TCP.
When I go to run the dial up connection, I have both username and password blank. However, as soon as it attempts a connection, I get a popup error of Error 692: There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device).
Am I missing something really obvious?
Many thanks for any help in advance. | Offline

Many thanks for any help in advance. | All you seem to be missing is the user/password...not sure what the hardware error is refering to :(

Works fine on my 8800 with Rogers...tried both bluetooth and USB. Internet seems a little quicker using USB. | Offline

| Thanks, I've added that to my dialup configuration. Now, it appears that it opens the port, dials *99#, and then flashes before closing the window. Nothing else.
Do you have anything configured under your Options/Advanced Options/TCP for the APN settings for the 8800? | Offline

| I haven't tried it with just USB... not sure how to configure it to use USB instead. I don't have a modem that shows up for that. What do I need to do? | Offline

What do I need to do? | Just make sure your BlackBerry Device Manager (not Desktop Manager) is running in your task bar...the modem will not appear unless this is running. | Offline

| I fired up Device Manager while on USB. It shows COM3 and COM8 as disconnected but USB is connected. After, I loaded up Phone & Modem to add a new Standard Modem, it displayed that COM4 and COM5 were selectable. I chose COM4 as I could query the BB modem without any problems unlike COM5.
I switched my dialup network connection to just use this new modem. When it dials, it almost instantly gives me a 628 error. Error 628: The connection was terminated by the remote computer before it could be completed. Seems a little strange how quickly the error came up. | Offline
