| Just bought my first BB, and I think I broke it. Any help is appreciated! Please Login to Remove! I just purchased a used BB 8700 from ebay, it is my first bb.
It worked fine until I got a little crazy adding games last night, everything was fine until I was trying to install pacman from a third party website and it was taking MUCH longer than the others that had zipped on there.
(I cannot connect via internet as I have no plan, I used Desktop Manager)
I disconnected the device from the computer, and the hourglass won't stop spinning.
I looked on-line and did the following:
*Alt-CAP-DEL (both holding it down and pressing them multiple times)
*Taking the battery and sim card out for more than a minute
*Pressing the power button for 30 seconds with the battery out
*Connecting the BB back to desktop manager both with and without the battery (Says nothing is connected)
So pretty much, it just has the hour glass so I can't access any of the ondevice features, and it won't connect via USB so I can't do any application management.
Are there any other options? Thank you for your time! | | Offline

| When you took the battery out, did you make sure the BB was still ON when you removed it? | | Offline

| Yes, because honestly I don't think I can get it to turn off. If I press the power button the hour glass just comes right back up. Can you help? | | Offline

| i had that happen to me one after 15 20 mins it went away and then it boots right up. if that does not happen you might need to clear your whole blackberry meaning reinstall blackberry OS back on and start fresh. Quote:

| hmm go to the 8700 section and download the latest OS for the 8700 and then connect the blackberry to the computer even if it still shows the hour glass and then launch the program that you just downloaded and go through the steps it should work. if not i am aware there are certin combo if you hit the buttons it should take the blackberry into a recovery mode where it should let you install the OS. trust me your blackberry is not broken the only real way to brake a blackberry is slamming it on the ground or a wall as long as it turns on and you see something your still alive its just a matter of time finding the way to fix it. i will look into how to rest the handheld will post back asap Quote:

| Thank you guys so much, It is back and working again. (I'm going to type exactly what I did incase anyone else in the future searches this to see it can be resolved)
I downloaded the software, deleted the vendor file then I used
blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_to_do_next_if_Jl_Cmder_will_not_connect_and_w ipe
Except the DOS wasnt working so I just used the AppLoader within the folder I already had open to delete the Vendor file.
It took a little bit for it to show the USB:UNKNOWN and when it did I clicked it right away, and it started to do its thing...After it was done the hourglass came back (which scared me) but after about 10 minutes it went away and I was ready to do a fresh setup.
Thanks again for all the help everyone! | | Offline

| One more question, did downloading third party games cause this? I don't want to make that mistake again but I would like some of the games I had. | | Offline

| And make sure if it is for a particular model you download the correct one. if you tried to put an app for an 8100 on an 8700, it could cause problems. | | Offline
