Hello,

This may seem like a really stupid question - why does my 8800 always say GPRS and never EDGE?

I am with Vodafone in the UK - given that the new standard seems to be 3G I find it hard to imagine Vodafone not having EDGE coverage - or am I expecting too much

Thanks for your advice.

James

Your carrier's network may not have EDGE.
They may have jumped from GPRS directly to a 3G network and skipped EDGE.

Many carriers in the UK did exactly that - they skipped EDGE completely.

Thanks for the quick reply

Looks like I am stuck on GPRS - until I save enough to buy a Bold....

Yep, I can confirm Voda in UK jumped from GPRS to 3G.
When roaming abroad (France for example) you'll see EDGE
