My daughter will be going to college in France next year.We have a family smart choice plan. We both have BB's with unlimited data, etc with Alltel..She has the 8830. What do we need to do so she can use her phone there ?
Any info would be appreciated.

Probably activate the GSM SIM card in the phone, and set her up with an international data plan from Alltell. If she'll be there a year it might make sense to get a local SIM card for her calls, and restrict the use of the BB to data.

Going to be awfully expensive to use a US phone in Europe even on an international voice and data plan. I would try to get the carrier to unlock the GSM portion and then get a local SIM and plan in France.

Use Orange in France, it works really well and you can go pre-paid.
