Default 8700 w/ 4.3 OS

Please Login to Remove!

I installed a 4.3 OS onto a test device here in the office and noticed there is no field to input a fax # in the Address Book. Has anyone else noticed this missing from other 4.3 builds?

Why the 4.3 OS, when 4.5 has officially been released for the 8700?

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

4.3 was never officially released that I recall, for the 8700.

We make software for BlackBerrys and noticed a bug with 4.3 OS's. Our QA person prefers a full QWERTY keyboard so I loaded a 4.3 OS onto his 8700 testing device. Once we complete testing on 4.3 I will upgrade it to 4.5.

I don't have time to upgrade one of our pearls to 4.3 at the moment, so I was just hoping for a quick answer.

Where did you get 4.3 for the 8700? It was never released.

The quick answer is yes, there were obvious bugs with 4.3, which is the reason it was passed right by to OS 4.5 by RIM.

Same with the Pearl IF it is the 8100 -- don't load 4.3 on it, go straight to OS 4.5.

Are you sure you have your numbers right? OS 4.3 vs 4.5?

Yes, I have my versions correct. I got 4.3 from the BB universe site, and realize no one else will have 4.3 on their 8700. I just want to know if the Fax field in Address Book is missing from other released 4.3 versions.

Angipants, read my posts again--there are NO OS 4.3 released versions. None.

If you have it, you are finding out why RIM abandoned it and NEVER released it.

Upgrade to OS 4.5 on this site and follow the directions for the upgrade.

Good luck.

Yes, I understand that.

Please re-read what I wrote. I am curious if any other 4.3 releases, for any other device, have the fax field in the Address Book.

Thanks.

ALL OS's have the fax field in the address book.

You didn't get OS 4.3 for the 8700 from the BBUniverse site. It was never released to partners (I don't think.) However, even if it was, there is no need to even test 4.3 OS on an 8700 since it will NEVER be released for the 8700.

They did. There were very early betas that a few people had since October of last year. By early this year they had changed them to OS 4.5. Anyone working with 4.3.1 OS is wasting their time. They were buggy and will never be released.

I'd like to find an OS without the fax number in the address book. Why my BB has to display the fax number first when you select "Call Joe Blow" I don't know since it is rather pointless to call a fax machine from a BB in most cases. Why it doesn't come up with the work or cell number first I don't know. Sounds like not having a fax number field would solve my problem.

Actually, our software allows you to send faxes from your BlackBerry.

Thanks all for the help.

When you call a contact, in the future, your BB will default to that last number called for the next time you select that contact.

Regardless of what your secret software will do (yes there apps that do that, we have some listed in our FAQ and Aftermarket software section), using OS 4.3 is pointless. Upgrade it.
