Hello, everybody i am new to the blackberry forums. i am new to blackberry's as well. which is why im here now with a question. im in a bit of a dilemna, my gf is going to portugal for 3 weeks and has a blackberry 8700g we are trying to figure out how we can talk to eachother. i mentioned installing AIM so that she can go on and call directly to my phone. only thing is i dont know much about installing software onto a BB. she is going to get the unlimited data plan with cingular and i have Downloaded Ramble. now i just need help installing it and testing it seeing if it will call me. can any one help with this? thanks in advance.

Does she have the international calling and data plan from ATT?

She doesnt have either at the moment i was thinkin she would only need the unlimited data plan. will she need the international calling plan too?? i was planning on subscribing to AIM mobile where she can call the US. for 1 cent a minute.

Then make sure she gets the international data plan then, because she is going to be using a whole lot of data.

I don't think the AIM calling VOiP will work on the BB, but maybe it will.

perhaps another user here has used on the BB and the 8700 and can let you know.

Hmmm it sucks because i was looking at the plans and she will only be gone 3 weeks and the cheapest plan is 69.99 and a 1 year term minimum. i only need something temporary. can you think of an alternative?? much appreciated. does the 1 year minimum term mean she has to have that plan for a year or have a contract with them for a year? what do u think? also if Voip doesnt work atleast she can text me to my phone over aim if i have aim mobile right?

She will meet some nice Portuguese boy, and she doesn't need you calling in the middle of him making goo-goo eyes at her

She needs to make sure her BB is unlocked for use on other carriers, and when she gets there to purchase a local GSM SIM card for a local carrier, and SHE calls you from it. (I think would be the cheapest way).

But on the 8700, you can't turn off the data, and use the phone only, she she still might incur some outrageous data charges.

Does someone else recall what is a good idea for the data?

she told me that when she is in portugal her phone turns into a "Vodaphone" if she were to purchase a local GSM sim would it only charge her by the minute when she calls me here or texts me? or is text part of Data?
