Question Removing keypad and lens

Please Login to Remove!

I have a new keypad and screen lens that I'm about to put on but the disassembly instructions in the DIY FAQ are not really disassembly instructions, they are LCD replacement instructions. Is it really necessary to remove everything right down to the LCD just to get to the keypad and lens?

There are a few videos on disassembling the device although the best one I saw appears gone.

But to remove the keyboard, you do have to remove the 4 screws in the battery compartment. Then I was able to pry up the lower third/half of the side-rails (they are snapped in tight!) using a plastic citrus peeler and then kept them flexed away from the sides by placing paper clips into the gap I created. Then gently bend the lower front to release the keyboard. Then the keyboard just dropped out. I put the new one in and snapped (again hard) the side rails back).

I have read that only the top part/layer of the screen can be pried off without any disassembly. Doubled-sided tape holds it apparently.

Good luck

So technically the lens actually isn't removable, at least by conventional methods. Well I only have a replacement lens, not the entire face, so I'll take a few pictures of my process and add them to the wiki.
