You can do it over the air. What IM do you want?

I am running DM 4.5. There are others running 4.6 fine.

You can get both DM versions here https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

Also, Here is the latest official OS for your device : https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

What instant messaging client are you looking for? As fadmin stated, you can most likely do that OTA.

Take a look at BeeJive IM. Formerly known as JiveTalk. Awesome application and has a 30 day trial: Beejive | instant messaging, just about anywhere

Well, mostly I want Windows Live..
But right now I clicked the links, and I don't know what application to chose in the drop down list?
Do I pick any? Or Desktop Software 4.5/4.6?

For a 8700, you will be fine with DM 4.2, SP2, withOUT the media Manager, or 4.5 without. Media Manager
