Detals: Orange 8820 UK blackberry unlocked and using rogers sim (but orange uk software... rogers wont install).
Problem: The wi-fi finds wireless networks but it will NOT connect, I have checked every possible setting, and even disabled every thing but the wi-fi. The connections page shows the wifi is turned on but it has a yellow circle with a line though it.... :smileysad:
Also is it possible to switch the orange uk software to the rogers one? I tried but it says its not right for the device?
If you're going to update your software, install the latest from the stick at the top of this forum for the 8820. A fresh install should cure all your ills. I'm running it on an AT&T 8820 and it's smooth and fast. WiFi works like a dream too.
Do note that to get data services, even over WiFi, you need a Blackberry data plan.
BB Maps might show up once you sign up for the data plan. I don't think an email-only plan will allow any data services other then basic email. Personally, I much prefer Google Maps and downloaded that immediately. Seamless integration with the GPS.
What you have now is all your going to get. The Wifi is on and thats it... you will never see a green circle for wifi, as you have a orange device with a rogers SIM, the wifi will only turn green if you are connected to UMA, which you WILL NOT be able to as you have a NON-rogers device... changing over from the Orange OS to the Rogers OS will not do anything in this case as the wifi/uma settings are hardwired into the firmware of the device.
What i am saying is you are able to connect to the internet and do everything you need to only, but you will not be able to use UMA (calling through the router) as the settings are wrong and cannot be change...
