Question is it possible to get on EFnet IRC using blackberry 8820?

Please Login to Remove!

I purchased a Blackberry 8820 for the sole purpose of being able to IRC on the go. the network i'd like to connect to is EFnet. I installed jMirc and added the default profile however no matter what I get an error:

Exception: tunnel timed out. error

is it impossible to do from this phone or did i make a mistake in buying one for this purpose?

thanks

i have t-mobile blackberry service in the US.
