Please Login to Remove!

Yesterday I found a Blackberry 8830 World Edition in a smaller thief hands...I take the phone and after few research ( I`m proudly user of Blackberry 8310 to Orange Romania ) I find the BB 8830 belong to a guy in USA ( I find the email configuration , etc )...I write a email and I told the guy how I find BB...he respond me and say the BB 8830 was stolen in Madrid ( Spain ) when was to a funeral...and say " enjoy the BB and use with pleasure " ?? Why ?? This BB is locked in Verizon and is not able to use in any carrier in Europe...my question is what I have to do ?? Thanks !!

Yeah, most likely he bought another BB. I would email him back and tell him that it won't work in Europe unless it's unlocked. Only Verizon can unlock it. Maybe he would contact Verizon and get an unlock code for it. The 8830 does have GSM capabilities in Europe so the device can be used in Europe.

Verizon doesn't charge their customers for unlocking the device. Usually you just tell them you are going to be travelling overseas and would like to use prepaid sim cards and if you are a customer in good standing they will provide an unlock code. Do you have any friends in the US that have Verizon? Beyond that, it's up to you what to do with it. You've done the right thing by contacting the owner. If he doesn't want it then it's yours to do what you wish. You could sell it here or donate it to someone here or whatever you wish.

Hi...
I found a BB and determined who owned it that by looking at his email. I got a hold of the end user who is in Chicago. When I finally contacted him, he was most gratefull on the phone and said his IT dept. would be happy. I sent the device back to him in the mail and never heard another word... ( not even a thank you...??!! ) So with that I guess that once someone looses the phone and replaces it they are not too concerned with the phone.
The other item of interest for those users who have corporate phones, we policy the phone with a password so it is a bit tougher finding the end user unless you call RIM with the pin number and see if they can determine who owns the phone. This guy's phone I found did not have any password on it! So it was easy enough to email him by looking at his phone address book etc.

H.

I think the OP has done what he is obligated to do. I don't think he's obligated to call the owner again if the owner said keep it. I believe it's up to him to decide what to do with it.

Wouldn't selling it here be a bad idea? I'm pretty sure the original owner called VZW and said it was stolen. This BB's IMEI/ESN could be flagged, so if anyone tries to activate it they'll be in quite a predicament.

I think you've watched one too many episodes of 24.

Just ditch it in the trash.

Trash? Use it as spare parts? Other than possibly flagged IMEI motherboard, all other parts such as LCD is usable.

yeah if the owner said keep it... I'd strip it for parts. Keep the case, LCD, keypad, battery, and just toss out the main board.
