Default T-Mobile email upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

I haven't found where anyone commented here about the upcoming email upgrade, so I thought I'd bring it to your attention in case you hadn't found it.

"On October 2, 2005, T-Mobile will upgrade the BlackBerry Internet E-mail service with a number of improvements. You don’t have to do anything to keep getting your e-mail on your BlackBerry® handheld, but you may experience brief delays between 2:00 a.m and 7:00 a.m EDT on October 2, 2005.

Corporate e-mail using BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ will not be affected by this upgrade.

The upgrade eliminates the need for the BlackBerry Internet Service™ Web site. All e-mail functions can be performed from the BlackBerry handheld or the source e-mail account. As a result, on October 1, 2005, the current BlackBerry Internet Service Web site will be shut down......."

The rest of the article is here: http://www.t-mobile.com/bisupgrade/

Sounds like a major change. Any insight anyone?

Cool T-Mobile email upgrade

I think this sucks. I look at my email online several times a day because I'm in a dead zone and my blackberry has no signal. I have 4 different internet emails going to my blackberry. If they take that website away, I have to check 4 different emails instead of one.
I hope the other functions work. I create and delete folders a lot, and just want to make sure that I'll be able to do that on the blackberry.

I have two concerns:

First, will I be forced to upgrade to the latest OS? I have been using 3.8 because of severe audio static problems with the latest OS. If I switch to the updated software and the audio static problems start up again, my phone goes in the trash.

Second, I have found the filters on the website very useful. Using keywords like "mortgage" and "xxxxxx" really kills the spam. I hope the replacement filter software is as good or better.

please, don't complain over someone giving you a pot of requested gold. atleast they (RIM) listened to the complaints and suggestions and did something about it. they are giving the same service but will be improving it - is it so bad that you can't live with inconvenience for a single day?

gadgetman, for wireless email settings to work, i would say yes. by that time, you will likely have a new OS to install (should be out around that time, if not earlier). i'm sure the filters replacing will be the same.

Default T-Moble upgrade vs. BES

Will I still need BES if t-mobile can delete mail on my mail server?

correct. it got pushed back a bit and is slated for the week of the work (or a week later).

shotput87, there are still advantages to having a BES account. if you are paying for hosted BES, then i'd say you would probably want to rid yourself of the extra costs. if you are on a company BES, then i'd stay on it, as you obviously would have the advantage of corporate email.

Boy, didn't think about that. What will happen to all these companies that host BES for profit?

I just receved an ok to purchase BES for our law firm. So do I have this right. If the only reason we are purchasing BES is so our lawyers do not have to do doulbe deletion then take a wait and see approach. But if I want instant updates on calenders, contacts, sent items, added security, then I still need BES?

shotput87, correct. if you are purchasing for a company, then most likely you will want the functionality of receiving corporate email. get the BES.

How many users do you plan to have on the BES?

Unhappy Filters

The Oct 2 upgrade will delete any filters we have set up. I set up many filters to keep certain messages from being forwarded to my Blackberry. I called the help line and they did not know WHERE these filters will be set up under the "new and improved" version. I hope they don't want us to thumb them in from the handheld.

this is crap - I love the notice and I wonder who actually got it - I only saw it because I was checking here for the status of the long awaited new firmware update from t-mo - and of course half the features they are eliminating are ones that I use - thanks t-mo
