Default Automatically Changing Time

Please Login to Remove!

This may be a repeat, but I am new. I have my settings configured to update the time from the network. When I travel to other time zones, it does not change the time. I read the documentation and it says I have to manually change the time zone to the zone I am in and it will correct the time taht way. Shouldn't this be automatic, as it is with most all other cell phones? Is there a way to make the device show the network time regardless of the time zone I am in?

I've been wondering the same thing. I use T-Mobile.

Probably not. I am fairly new to BlackBerry, but had Smartphones for years. The Smartphone will not change from zone to zone as that will then change all the times in the PIM. So, in Cingular, for example, as with most other provides, the network will change and keep the time on a cellular phone, but not on the smartphones. I surmise the same thing applies to the BlackBerry.

I found it easier to just make the adjustment in my mind (7 central at home, so iit is 8 here) than to mess almost 800 appointments. HTH.

That is exactly why I do change the timezone in my Blackberry when I travel internationally. I ensure the time zone is correct for the departure time on my flights (sync'd to Lotus Notes from my travel agent with Infuzer) and such and everything works like magic by simply wheeling around to the correct time zone for my location. My wife, who gets my itineraries in her email, knows exactly where I am relative to her time zone when I am on the road. And, in the same way, I don't miss a conference call in LA when I'm in KL.

I have had phones that do automatically adjust to local time, if configured for that, but I don't know if that info includes time zone data -- if so, automatic switching would be great, but if not, that would be a disaster. The bottom line is, your Blackberry will do the correct thing with time zones, but it does it manually.

Default Not a timezone change issue - a display issue

This is an issue of providing an option to display network time rather than timezone time - poor programming.

New member with 7 posts and 7 posts have to do with poor programming or deficiences with BB's on time functions.

I have been a member here for 5+ months and a BB user for years. I have not seen any time display concerns with BB's as I have seen posted today.

My 7100i has the option to change the "Date/Time Source" & the options are "Off, Blackberry or Network". So the option is there, it is up to the carrier to support/provide from there. If you have this option set to "Network" and your time doesnt change, blame your carrier and not the programmers. In the "Date/Time" option, it shows you the BB Display Time and the Network Time/Date being supplied from the network. It also has the option to update the time.

I feel the BB address's time zones just fine, it may be different than cell phones but PDA's have more to deal with in programmng than just the display of time.

Not only does the BB offer the time source setting, you can change the time zone as you travel and appointments have the option to change the time zone of that appointment.

There are also plenty of 3rd party time programs available for the BB for viewing mulitiple time zones.

I found this in the 7100i user manual. Couldnt copy text from the user manual PDF so attached an image. It is from page #22.

Keep in mind that all appointments already created have your previous time zone already setup in them. So changing the local time shouldnt affect them.
