Default Best text-only web sites/portals?

Please Login to Remove!

Well, the novelty of being able to browse the web in full color, etc has been replaced by the frustration of waiting forever for graphics-laden pages to load at ~15kbps....

I'd like to start a thread, if I may, for people to recommend their favorite text-only links. I realize there are some available in the T-zones area, but I'd like to see what the rest of the forum members have come up with.

I'm sure someone has already put together a page of the most useful text only links - what are your favorites?

pdaportal.com has quite a few. You'd probably find a dozen more by searching

Gee, what did you expect from a phone? In my experience, the only time the browsing has been "unbearably" slow is the first time I go to a particular site. It seems to me the more I go to a site, the faster it loads, but then again, maybe I have the charmed Charm. There are some people who say they can't do OTA downloads either.

Thanks bfrye - that's a good one.

I must not have had the right combination of terms when I searched because all I came up with were instructions of how to create text-only web sites, and web developers discussing it, etc.

Here are the ones that I have bookmarked:

http://www.mapquest.com/pda/main.adp - great for grabbing maps on the go. I get lost, but don't have to admit it anymore!

http://www.infospace.com/info.avant/...tm?pgtarg=ylwi - Yellowpages

http://www.infospace.com/_1_2WDDUC50....htm?ver=18140 - Whitepages

http://palm.moviefone.com - Movie time listings. Much better than the MovieFone link that comes with the phone.

http://www.accuweather.com/pda/pda_5...?thisZip=48348 (put your zip in at the end) Weather

If it is a popular page, it may have a lite or text only version - for example, http://news.com.com has a link at the bottom of the page "News.com Mobile" with a link their mobile site - http://news.com.com/2162-12_3-0.html

http://wap.switchboard.com/xhtml/index.asp - white pages / yellow pages

http://wl.mapquest.com/gb/ - mapquest; driving directions

http://wap.playboy.com - stick figure women (j/k)

Default pocketdigg

I feel your pain. Because of this I have started a site that strips off the garbage and leaves the text. It is called www.PocketDigg.com. I will be taking my favorite fat sites, and pulling their top stories down to a light version for pocket devices.

Be Well,

Check out eboogie.com, although I am so pleased with the speed of the 7100t that I don't avoid graphic sites the way I used to with my Treo. (YMMV) Good luck.

Well, along these same lines - when using a non-RIM device I have used Yahoo to receive headlines - often truncated - via SMS. Are there services similar to that for BB's that I can sign up for to receive news through the day?

Obviously I am new to the BB world....

For those of you who support our troops by, among other things, keeping abreast of what's coming down in Bush's War try out:

I haven't tried it Alberto, but I've clicked on a Hallmark (I think) ad on this forum for something called (I think) Pocket Express that seems to be what you want. I think it was a paid subscription deal.
