Default Thinking of swapping 7100t for Audiovox 5600

Please Login to Remove!

After playing with the 7100t for several days, I'm becoming less enamored of this unit. I was first attracted to it by its size and the lack of a camera (which I don't care for), and the idea of having a phone and a PDA in one unit. But...
  • My PocketPC PDA runs circles around the BlackBerry as a PIM.
  • The breadth of applications for the Microsoft OS is far greater, prettier and useful, and navigation is easier.
  • I don't intend to sync email, so... just to download a ringtone, I need a data plan of at least $20... amazing...!
  • Almost every time I push the tiny green "talk" button, I also push the1/E-R key... odd design for regular fingers.

It looks like the BlackBerry is truly useful when used with BES... otherwise it's just average... Given my needs, do you think I'm on the right track, or is it simply a matter of getting over the usage curve...?

I love it barring my signal issues. Of course it is not a PDA but nothing is perfect.

I have had an SMT5600 and an MPX220- both excellent smartphones, but I needed the email function. If you are not going to synch to email, then move on to one of those two - determined whether you like candybar or flip. They will give you the PDA-like function that you need. If you want a true PDA, then there are other options with sylus input which these two do not have.

I moved over to a 5600. It is not as easy to do emails or sms because of the t9 but other than that for basic email and sms its fine. Also the mic works. Which is the only reason I swapped it out. I think the functionality and logic is better with the 7100g though. It takes a little time to get used to but I think the 5600 is still pretty good considering the size and features. The only thing that I think the 5600 could of done better is better hot keys similar to the bb's.
