Default Transfering files from PC to Blackberry 8700g

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,
I have a Blackberry 8700g, and I am TMobile customer, however I do not have a data plan. Can I use the Desktop Manager to transfer and store documents (.doc, .xls, pdf, etc.) from my PC to the blackberry and view and edit them?
Thanks in advance.

To be honest, you'll struggle. If you have Desktop Manager with Media Manager built in you can transfer files to the device, however I don't believe the built-in Documents To Go supports reading from file storage. I have MagicGrid, but again this doesn't read from file storage. You might be able to use a third party file manager to launch the file and view it with Docs to Go, but this won't give you edit functionality (unless you have a very new version, I believe?).

I have docs to go standard edition on my 8700. I can read files but cannot edit or make them on my phone. Also, BlackBerry Unite lets me see all the files without storing them on my BB.

Does Docs to Go work with OS version 4.1? If yes, how do I get it? Is it free?
Thanks

the only way i found to transfer data (mp3, pics) was via a Bluetooth Dongle. Because the DM doesn't show the Media Manager because 8700 doesn't have memory card.

BTW you should upgrade the OS to 4.5

Media Manager shows up on my DM install. I've used it to transfer ebooks to my 8700G.

I take it you downloaded the DM setup with Media Manager included?

Welcome to the forums!

You will need to purchase Docs To Go from their website if you are using OS 4.1.

Also, without the abilty to use a media card on your 8700, you may find that your availible memory fills up pretty fast by storing a lot of documents.

Thanks guys for responding. I want to upgrade to 4.5, but I am with TMobile USA, and my provider supports 4.2 on 8700g. I upgraded to 4.2, but can I upgrade to 4.5 even if my provider does not support it?

Seriously - copying media (and files) over to the 8700 is a very bad idea. You will run out of memory on the device, and then it will stop working. If you have a requirement to copy data to a BlackBerry, you should upgrade to one that has a microSD memory card slot.

You can upgrade the 8700 to v4.5 even if T-Mobile hasn't released it. All of the software is written by RIM, and tested and released by the carriers. We run 4.5 on 8700s all over the world.
