Default IM Messages sent in SMS

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

Proud owner of a 7100T : )

Anyway, tyring to use Instant Messaging. Launch AOL, status bar starts to go...stops, THEN I get an email telling me I'm "Successful" Something called Wireless Village?

Anyway...the application never loads but friends can see me online. If they send me an IM, I'll get an email that looks like this:

WV11NM4
SI=1.13464135461343133343
MI=4 DT=20050927T205600
UI=wv.shardssvsguy33 MC="Are you there?"

Seems like this is set to send SMS? versus regular IM's. Anyone have any ideas? Oh, the status bar will hang and I'll eventually get a communication error.

Yes the IM that is built into the blackberry OS uses SMS to send IMs. You should get a 3rd party IM program like verichat. You will also want to setup tcp on your handheld. Go into your settings/options, then to TCP and put wap.voicestream.com under APN and leave the username and password blank.

I appreciate both responses. When I first got it, it looked like I could access like regular AOL IM. My buddy with the same model can access like normal with NO SMS....basically looks like a desktop IM.

Can you reset just one application (kind of like reinstalling)?

I have had sooo many problems with instant messanger on my 7100t with t-mobile. Before i used to get communication errors at 20%. So i tried uninstalling the im service from service book and also removing the instant messenger from applications. I rebooted the BB and then went into settings->Host Routing Table and re registered to redownload the client. This did nothing still failing at 20%. I have been working with the blackberry guru at work and he said that you can also try resetting the firewall which i tried and rebooted again. Still no luck. Also set all of my settings within browser push in options to from auto to prompt. This let me get to 80% but then it failed out at receiving buddies. I have tried reflashing the the BB multiple times with no luck. Anyone else have an suggestions? I am also going to try to revert back to an older OS to see if i still have problems
