Default Date/Time problems on 8820

Please Login to Remove!

Howdy, folks,

I'm a BESadmin, and i had a user whose 8820 keeps changing time zone, time, and date to seemingly random times, at seemingly random intervals.
A couple months ago, i nuked the device, reloaded it, and used it as my own for a few weeks. I tried it with Date/Time source set alternately to BlackBerry, then to Network, and encountered no problems on either settings.

However, two weeks ago i assigned the same device to another user, and he came to me this morning complaining of the same issues. He would look at his device and see the date set to 1:30am Oct 22, 2069 (in one example), so he'd reset the information to the current date, time, and TZ and go his merry way. A couple days later, which was this morning, he showed it to me and it gave a time of 2:15pm on June 23, 1992.

Any ideas on what's causing this issue?

Is the user connecting the BlackBerry to a computer. If so is the date/time/timezone set correctly on that computer. By default the DM updates the BlackBerry date/time from the desktop.

X14:
As far as i know, he is not connecting it to a computer. And i just looked at it again, and it only changed the time zone back to Casablanca (the default) this time. It has not been connected to a computer since i wiped it and set the time this morning.

I may try upgrading the device firmware again to see if that helps...i put a newer version on when i nuked it the first time, but it doesn't seem to have fixed it.

Yes, this device has had its share of frequent-flier miles. Would this cause a persistent problem after it has stayed in one timezone?
I reset the date/time information before i left work on Friday. By the time I got to work Monday, it's telling me it's 11:57pm on 1 November, 2013. It's sat on my desk all weekend.

At this point, i'm thinking it's just effing hosed. I think i'm going to try updating the firmware again today, see if that helps.
Sorry for the late reply, i was out of town this weekend.

It shouldn't cause a persistant problem, if the time is set from the network once you cross the time zone, your carrier's network should notice it and change it.

Might be the phone.

Seems to be fixed, finally.

After updating to 4.5, i haven't seen this date/time issue again. User has had it for a week and a half now, and hasn't seen any problems.
