Default 8GB card in Verizon

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

New to screwing around with my phone. I've reviewed the FAQ's but still have some questions:

1) I just added a 8GB Kingston MicroSDHC class 4. Will this work? I don't understand the diff between MicroSD and MicroSDHC and the classes.

2) I'm 4.2.2.176 and I see unless I have 4.5 I can only utilize 4GB - and there is no 4.5 for Verizon. Do I have to do anything like format it or will it simply only use the addresses in the 4GB range?

3) I saw a post from someone who said they are at 4.2.2.196 and they got that from the Verizon web site. All I can see is 4.2.2.176. Is there a .196 or might that be a typo?

4) If I simply load my v4.7 Desktop Manager, connect to my phone and do a check for updates, is that the easiest way to guarantee I have the latest OS?

I got the extra memory because my VZ navigator is kind of crap. It's great when it works, which is about 75% of the time - and I live in Balt/DC metro area so I'm not out in the sticks. I frequently get "network unavailable - try again later" or some such, which sucks if you are heading to a meeting. Anyway, I thought I'd try to feed it more memory and see if that helps - hence the MicroSDHC upgrade.

Thanks very much for the help.

Maybe, might not though. SDHC is anything with a capacity of 4GB and above.

Just plug it in. It will see what it sees with that OS it is not certain some people say 8GB works fine.

.196 exists, check the FAQ to find the download link for VZW's page.

You will probably find out on this forum before anything else, when it's available.

You might want to clear out some uneeded apps, you can not install applications on a media so unless you have music/ringtones/pictures, the media card won't be too helpful.

I used the Sprint release of 4.2.2.196, deleted the vendor.xml file when I installed it and it recognized my 8G microSD.

Whether it's Sprint's or VZW 4.2.2.196 is the same across the board. I know I got .196 from VZW quite a few months ago have they pulled it?

My bad. I looks like you are right. I went to VZ and am downloading the latest 88MB which looks like it includes .196.

Why didn't the Desktop Manager do this for me? When I was in it I searched for updates and it told me there weren't any. Once I downloaded the big package and executed it on my desktop it then launched the Desktop Manager (v4.7) and showed me I had all kinds of updates to do. It's doing that as I type...

Yesterday after I installed the microsd I tried downloading some pics to the 8830. It only downloaded about 6 pictures and then told me the device was full. I checked stats and sure enough there wasn't any available File space. Looks like it didn't take advantage of the microsd memory at all. I'm going to try again after this upgrade and see if I have any better luck - unless you all think I may have missed something.

Thanks again for the support. Great forum.
