Hey Guys! I just got a 7100G from a friend yesterday with no instruction book or anything and i am just trying to learn a few tricks and get used to it..switched from a moto V600 and so i have a few questions:

1. I dont have a data plan yet but i still have my cingular voice and sms plan...i have read a few threads on getting MP3 ringtones onto the BB so can you guys lead me in the right direction.....do i need a data plan to get download the ringtones, etc.

2. How can i get like instant messanger on my BB for free>?

3. Do i need to have a data plan to recieve and check emails....and how can i recieve emails from my AOL account>?

4. I also getting a DATA connection refused message on the top of my BB..could this be because i have no data plan...

Well thanks and i hope you guys can really help me out...does cingular offer good data plans for the BB and what kind of plans to you guys have....thanks!

I am just a college student who want to always be connected on the run....so cingular is hooking me up with an unlimited use data plan for my blackberry and my questions is....is it worth it and is this what i am looking for, ie. check aol mail, im, download ringtones and all that good stuff

lol i'm not a corprate user either if you read my stuff you will SEE i'm 19 and a speedskater/ college student and i havea data plan i need a data plan for getting my ringtones to get ringtone you need net no data plan no net. you get the data conection rufused cause you do not have a data plan. you need a data plan to get to your email so pretty much you just have a regular old phone that looks fancy but cut down with out a data plan. blackerries are great with data plans other wise there not so nice.

so if you plan to use the fetures you mentioned above you will need a data plan. There is no gettting around that fact. so if you plan to check your email or to get your ringtones for free (yes i said free like the bear you steal out of your friendss fridge when he is not looking. LOL) from the many of lovely servers people have setup. You shall need the all oh mighty data plan. if you pust would like a nice looking phone to throw on your hip and talk with you can leave it like it is no data plan is needed for that but if thats the case why didn't you just get a razor or nokia something. i frankly hate flip phones witha passion they just seem to fragile. so if i ever go back to an actual just plan phone i will got to a nokia bar phone.
