Default 7100 AC Adapter with an iPod?

Please Login to Remove!

Trying to keep chargers to a min when traveling. Since iPods and Blackberrys charge via USB can I use the AC Adapter from my 7100T for my iPod?

Anyone tried this?

Most BlackBerrys use a standard mini-USB cable. Nothing special on the BB side.

iPod uses Firewire for their plug, not USB and the interfaces on the devices are different so, at a minimum you would need to use two different cables, but I cannot see how the "plug" adapter could be the same as well......at least for my iPod (but I think they're all the same)....maybe BlackBerrys are different from device to device??

I was wondering the same thing (I got tired of having to fire up the laptop each time I wanted to charge my iPod on my last trip). I have a replacement warranty on my iPod, so I was just going to try it and then if the iPod got fried, I could get it replaced.

BTW, MozMan68, my iPod uses USB, as I think most or all do. Some may also use Firewire. The BB AC adapter is set up to take a regular USB cable, but will also take the iPod USB cable, since it has a regular USB connection at one end, and the iPod specific connection at the other end.

True for G4 or later iPods, but any of the previous versions will not charge with the USB cable which is why pre-G4 ipods HAVE to use the supplied charger (which only works with the fire wire cord) or have a fire wire connection to charge. Considering that the USB chargeable iPods have only been available since May?? of 2004, there alot of iPod users out there that cannot charge with their USB cable.

Yes. Probably. Yes.

I used the BB 7105t cable to charge and sync my Zen Micro. It's a standard mini-USB (USBa??) cable.

I also bught a USB-AC adapter. I can plug the "big" end of the cable into the adapter and plug the adaptor into the wall, thereby avoiding booting up my laptop.

Most USB chargers can charge almost any USB devices.

Some problems arises when the device only wants to draw 100 milliamps of power until a negotiation sequence is transmitted over USB to draw 500 milliamps. Thus, some USB AC adaptors will charge certain devices very slowly (five times as long).

However, for most devices, this does not matter -- many USB AC adaptors are 'dumb' (no power signalling), and many devices will accept the power anyway.

Since it's the USB standard, it's pretty safe to try any high quality, properly manufactured USB charger on any USB device designed to be charged. I use one USB charger that charges either my PocketPC or BlackBerry, and it probably can charge other things such as a USB-based iPod (i.e. Shuffle) or other device.

I ALWAYS use my 7100t charger to charge my iPod Mini (which didn't come with its own charger). Never had a problem! One less "thingy" to carry with me when I travel, too.

yep...the mini was the first iPod that actually charges off the USB cable...pissed me off when my wife's mini would charge while hooked to the computer and my old 20GB one wouldn't....too bad the batteries on the mini are crap....already have to replace mine but I certainly don't mind buying a nano.

For some reason, my shuffle will not charge off of my bb wall charger. Does anyone else have this problem?
