I have today updated my 8820 from version 4.2 to version 4.5 successfully. Afterwards I tried to get GPS info and readouts but it appears the GPS isn't working!
I try to "Refresh GPS" but it stays on the "Scanning for Satellites" message for an excessively long time!

Any advice?

Make sure you're outside as I have found that if I'm inside my GPS behaves "iffy". Outside, it works excellent.

I am an experienced BlackBerry 8820 user, and after updating to the 4.5.0.193 device software, my GPS quit working. I am have already tried checking the options and GPS settings, and it is still not functioning. I have reloaded the device software, the desktop software, and still no joy.
Any other suggestions?

One of the problems of an OS update, I guess.

Were you outside, with a clear view of the sky? The BB needs to download the current ephemeris table so it knows which satellites to look for and where they are. Then you need to be outside, with a clear view of the sky so it can find them and lock on. Can take upwards of 20 minutes or so, but generally 5 minutes or less.

It seems to help if you have Googlemaps up and running since Google locates you using cell tower triangulation to within 1700-1500 meters which gives the BB/GPS a place to start as well. Also make sure you have the correct time on the device.
