Question for you all. I am on the TELUS network and I have a 8830. If I get a sim card from whatever island I go to this summer and put it to my phone how do I use it on the gsm network to make calls only and will I still be able to use my cdma service from here in Canada. I donxxx8217;t think I would use the Canadian service abroad due roaming charges. I guess what I am really after is how do I use my phone overseas without additional charges

Thanks

Depending on the country you are in, the 8830 will not work on the GSM frequencies and you may or may not have CDMA service. Most countries in the Caribbean use the same GSM frequencies as the USA and Canada, and the 8830 cannot operate on those frequencies.

Where are you going? I'm not sure but Centennial is a CDMA and they support the 8830 on PR and the USVI

Are you sure about the USVI? I seem to recall that Verizon customers can't do much on some of the US islands...

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

No. There is some maritime service that may work on the island. Check with travel agent
