Default Will I be able to use an Italian Vodafone sim card in my unlocked 8700c?

If I unlock my 8700c blackberry, will I be able to purchase a vodafone sim card in Italy and use it in my phone? How does that work? I just want to use the blackberry as a regular phone, I don't need a data plan.
