Default 7100t and noise cancellation

Please Login to Remove!

I'm a blackberry newbie -- former sidekick 1 color user for data and a V60 for voice (thank god I am outta that phone). The 7100t lured me in because of its slimmer form factor and the fact I could combine my voice and data in one device without lookin like I'm talkin on a brick. :P

Almost everyone I have talked to on my new 7100t complains of background noise when I am in the car or noisy environment like the mall or server room. Other environments seem to be okay. I tried the wired headset which came with the phone as well as a motorola one I had for my old phone -- no help. Has anyone else noticed your 7100 letting more background noise through than your previous phone? I use this primarily as a phone so if I can't find a solution for the car I may use the 14 day return policy. :(

I thought maybe a bluetooth earpiece may be my solution since they may have noise-cancelling built in. I noticed another thread where someone mentioned the motorola 810/820 having this feature.... any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

I got this 7100t 15 days ago and wanted to exchange for a new one due to some problems today, but was told all I could get is a refurbished one since the 14 days had passed. So, if you want to do anything with the phone, do so in the 14 days window, or you will regret you did not do it. :o

For the noise problem, I can share some of my experiences with you. I had TMO about two years ago. The phone was a Samsung R225. The background noise was very strong whenever I was driving and talking at the same time. Later on had another Sony Ericsson T610 phone, same problem.

This new 7100t still has the same problem. However, I also have a Motorola V300 with TMO service and this phone does NOT produce the problem. So, you are definitely not alone and I think the problem is caused by the TMO network and the phone you are using (according to my experience).

Another thing I want to point out is that this background noise problem typically is associated with GSM phones, not with CDMA. I have Verizon CDMA phone and never had such a problem. It seems that a GSM phone will have the problem regardless of the carrier.

I am in the Los Angeles area. But I had the same problem in San Francisco, Vegas, etc.

Whatever you want to do, the first 14 days is the best time to do it.

Good luck!

Nick

I am in the South Florida area and had a lot of wind noise issues when using the speakerphone and the wired headset. I did not have problems when using the phone per se.

The motorola HS810 BT headset has made a huge difference. The noise is gone unless I am driving with the windows open (which is acceptable)

The wired headset they provided us sucks big time. If you are going to keep the phone invest in a BT headset.

If you haven't updated the software on the handset to the latest version, then I'd suggest doing so. Thats all I can think of, atm.

I bought the HS810 bluetooth headset and am sad to say it made no difference. :( I was already past my 14 day window -- not sure what to do. It's hard to not be able to talk to people in any kind of moderately noisy environment. :::sigh::: I'm kinda thinkin of goin back to the sidekick for data and a regular phone for voice.

I've had the same problem, what I did that helped was update to the .132 Also the handsfree that came with the phone helps too... If that doesn't help try the more high quality handsfree sets in stores ...

132 is available from Rogers for the 7100r. It works fine on the 7100t, but does NOT include the T-Mobile theme - it has the Rogers 7100r theme.

I am having the same problem with background noise on the 7100t on Cingular. People tell me it sounds like I am in a convertable whether I use the included wired headset, HS810 bluetooth, or just the handset. I already returned 1 phone hoping this would resolve the problem but it did not.

Has anyone found a way to make the phone usable for business conversation. Perhaps a good noise cancelling wired headset?
