Auction ends 11/21

http://cgi.ebay.com/Cingular-BlackBe...QQcmdZViewItem

Product (originally) to ship 11/21

Amazon has them for no contract at $499

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...410112-6617539

By my calculation, you are overpaying by more than $200 to possibly secure a device a few days early --- and to boot you're paying someone with 5 feedbacks on eBay.

While I have paid for the privilage of owning cutting edge technology before it was released, I am not fooled by auctions like these. Clearly a scam. I saw it a few days ago and asked for images of the 8700c with the box. No response!

It is ashame how many people will pay this person.

There seems to be a lot of this that goes on at eBay.

Seems that every time there is a new phone or hot technology that people leap up to take advantage. Notice there is no "Buy it now".

This auction does not seem to be a scam but you never know for sure. The one thing about it that doesn't sit well with me is there is no buyer protection offered through Paypal. I would feel more comfortable knowing there was $1000 buyer protection offered. My personal feeling is this auction is not a scam. Sure, the seller never got back with you with the pictures of the box but I wonder how many seller questions this guy has received about these phones. Probably quite a few.

I would suspect a scam if this auction was for a Nokia N91 or something like that. But, we already know that the 8700 is 'in the wild' and will be in wide release very soon.

I don't know if it's a scam - certainly appears opportunistic and possibly exploits people who don't know the original scheduled release is 11/21 and the price without a contract is $499 from Amazon.

I have emailed the seller three times asking for any other images of the phone that the stock one they show on the auction. No response. If it is not a scam, I feel the person would reply in some way. I always email to see what the person says as you can tell alot by what they email bad. Broken English and bad grammer are a turn off for me. This person COULD have been expecting to get the phone on the 18th to sell, who knows. A credit card and even PayPal offers a $1000 safety margin if you followo the rules.

I would not buy from this person as they did not even answer any of my emails. Whne the phone is out, you will see many 8700c units for sale by more reputable dealers. That is when I might jump for it.

Good point but the scheduled release date is 11/21 and It's difficult to exploit someone who has the power to not bid on an item. This last minute delay to tweak the software could push the release date out to early December. That may explain the interest and the price.

Exclamation Would you like to see a scam?

Here's a good example of a SCAM. 1-day auction with a low starting bid, the seller wanting you to contact them off of ebay. Also, this auction looks like the other two we were originally talking about. Similiar wording, same picture, etc. That's another tactic that scammers use to confuse bidders. Another thing, there are bids on 90% of his auctions which makes them appear legit. Looks like this person has phished a lot of accounts from unsuspecting Ebayers.

This seller has been an Ebay member since October 1999 and never sold ANYTHING before today. Now he has 31 1-day auctions. His account has been hijacked. This auction was listed earlier but Ebay yanked it because it did not meet their listing policy. Looks like it's back again. 100% scam.

I just noticed the auctions for the 8700's we were originally talking about were ended early by the seller. Maybe ntron1 was right; he confirmed he was not going to be able to get them for another week because of the release delay. Maybe he got an offer he couldn't refuse. Who knows.

Explanation: The seller ended the listing early and cancelled all bids.
