I am considering getting 1 of the 2 phones, but I just can't come to a conclusion, so I need yall's help, please. Don't include the SureType in your decision, leave that out of your vote. 7100g is the one for me between the two. In fact I am replying to this topic on my 7100g from Cingular. for my money it is just easier to live with as a consolidated device. It is a very reasonable size and is a "decent" phone for voice. Add the speaker and to me their is no choice. Although this cingular rep will be getting the 8700c the day one makes it to my store as the full keyboard vs suretype plus EDGE and all the other benefits of the 7100g make the 8700 a no brainer.

Get one and try for the trial period. I had a 7290 for some months (data only) and just got a 7100g. Had been a treo user and it is refreshing being back to just one device to worry about, even though I now have no backup--if it goes on the fritz: no email and no voice...

If you want to carry just one device, I'd say 7100g.

If you don't mind the inferior screen, and larger size, go with the 7290.

SureType is ok, but, nothing beats a full QWERTY.

hi. first time posting here, not totally new to blackberries. had one of the first generation units, now i have a 7100g from cingular, hooked up to an enerprise email server.

After a week what do I think?

the keyboard is a bit weird... however i do not use this for hardcore email action. with time ill get used to it (i hope).

the screen is fantastic compared to my old monochrome unit, so for me I would trade the keyboard weirdness for the display quality... and you should make the same decision. trade one for the other.

Decision factor is between the two models is simple:

More talking than typing: 7100
More typing than talking: 7290
