Default Please help - I need advice (8700c)

Please Login to Remove!

Not thinking, I requested 8700 shipment to my office....Now, I have to come into office on Friday to receive it! This, after telling my wife that I was looking forward to spending day with her and the kids. Folks, I need help in making a decision. Should I:

1. Lie and tell her that i have an important conference call in Friday that simply can't be missed?, or:

2. Tell her the truth and risk not seeing this thing until Monday?

Generally speaking, I don't like to lie, but the real question is: can i survive this coming weekend waiting for Monday to arrive?

Thank you in advance for your replies....

I love this post!

This perfectly summarizes how pathetically addicted we all are. (not an insult man, I would have the same problem)

No point in talking about what the "right" thing to do is, so I will ask about your options instead.

1. Any chance someone else will be in the office and can receive it for you? That way you can coordinate a quick pickup from them.

2. Call Fedex and see if you can pick it up from their station vs having them put it on the truck for delivery (again, quick pickup - not too much time away from the house).

3. Drink lots and try to forget about the phone.

I just told my wife I'll meet her for lunch at the mall. Now she is really surprised but grateful - wow, what a wonderful start to the holiday weekend, she says.

Of course, I did not tell her the real reason I'll drive an hour to get to the mall to meet her for lunch - my vzw rep called me yesterday and he has a demo 7130e all set for me to spend some time playing with today!

I guess after we eat something for lunch (have to be fast food as I'll be eager to get over to the store) we will just have to wander down to the vzw store to see if the have anything new for me to play with........ heeheehee!

This is a little outside the scope of this forum. I think you'll make the right decision.

Gemrookie,

Lying is bad. However, anything worth doing, is worth doing right. So on that note, If you tell her that you have a conference call, the first thing she'll ask is "why can't you dial in from home?" Pick a better excuse, buddy.

Supermanfan....I like your style!!!
1. Unfortunately, I gave my assistant the day off...arghhh!
2. A pain in the butt, but so was spending 4 hours trying to get this thing yesterday!
3. Drinking lots won't take the pain away! I'll become even more emotional and probably start to cry!
Looks like #2 wins it....Thanx

Default Tough but

do what supermanfan suggests. Even if you have to bribe a coworker or have them overnight it back to you for delivery tomorrow. These little things can wait. Focus on the family first. The technology will be there, but if the family isn't, there is whole lot more to lose.

Just try telling her. Whenever anything like this comes up mine knows me well enough and eventually will ask me in a sarcastic way, "...and you have to have this now, right?" I might get a huff, but I alway offer to let her come along for the ride with kids or without. Of course the problem is trying to get her to drive back so i can play with my new toy. As I already posted earlier, i received my 8700c last week and have already had to deal with:

1. Are you still on that damn thing?
2. What are you doing on that damn thing?
3. What is the big deal about that damned thing?
4. What does that damn thing do that your old one (7290) doesn't?
5. Oh, that's cute. Why can't I get those type of ringtones on mine and are you going to get me one? (She also has a 7290 but is not an addict....yet!)

Default This will take some finesse....

Typically, FedEx delivers to businesses first and residences afterward (usually the afternoon).

Do you deal with FedEx often? If you do, as I do, you can call them and have your priority bumped up so it would be early in the morning. They still can't (won't) give you an exact time but at least you know it will be in the early part of the AM.

Also, check this out....

If the FexEx priority thing works out...you still have the problem of leaving the house for the office on your day off (what to tell the wife!!???) Tell her you have to pick up a shipment from the office (don't say what). On your way home buy her some flowers and tell her "I can't belive the shipment I had to pick up was this thing (8700). I'm sorry I had to leave just for this (obviously you'll be thinking...just for this...just for this!!!???? this is the sweetest damned thing ever!! but she doesn't need to know that) so here are some flowers. If I would have known the shipment was for this blackberry I would have waited until Monday....I thought it might be (insert something important from work here)."

You're golden...8700 plus the wifes affection. It's not really lying....it's just crafty.

If you miss the shipment at the office, you may be able to pick up the package at the FedEx terminal later in the evening. That way you can spend the day with the family and still have it Friday night.

Wow, what a dilema. Should I lie to my wife AND break a promise for a blackberry? Can you even look at yourself in the mirror? My suggestion, since you asked for them, is to spend the whole day tracking your blackberry via fedex, "crafting" your schedule in order to obtain the unit. THEN, since you will be so happy that you have it you will of course want to start using it right away. SO, make up some other excuses why you can't spend time with your wife so you can get a soar neck staring at the device all day. Sounds like a real good idea to me.

Or, you could just be a man and live up to your promise to spend the day with your wife.

That works. Or even an address redirect. I've had FedEx redirect to a different address too. Call FedEx immediately, right now to put the 'PICKUP' tag on the tracking number.

Personally, I would tell the truth. An understanding better half will accomodate you. Combine this with a FedEx pickup (if that's faster than the office), you will only waste a smaller amount of time.
