Default 8700 defective units

Please Login to Remove!

I'm so upset after receiving my 8700 on Tuesday via fedex. Seems the Escape key (button) on the right side of the device works only one out of ten times.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem with their escape key not working? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Sincerely,

Jaime C.

That is only frustrating thing about ordering anything from NBO or telesales is that they will do the exchange and have it out to you overnight, but they charge you for the replacement and have to wait 2-4 billing cycles(months) for the returned defective unit to credited. Sorry to hear about that

Yes a client of mine had the same exact issue with the back button...it can be easily fixed if your daring enough to take apart the case...very simple.

They are called burnt out pixels and are common in LCDs. Most people ignore them but with my OCD they drive me nuts.

Do you just throw it in your pocket or is that something that was there from the start?

Un-sealed displays are bad news for pocket users.

I'd be grateful if you could share with us how to fix the escape button issue. If I don't have to exchange the device I'll open the case and to the fix myself.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Just remember as soon as you open the case the warranty on it will be voided, it maybe an easy fix to do at the moment but do you want to risk bigger issues that may come later that you cannot fix and youd be stuck then with an expensive paper weight. Something new like this I would exchange it under warranty and wait for it to be done the right way, after all you did without it for this long a few more days is not a big deal compared to the life of the phone.

Anybody have problems with the 8700 holster. Mine will not put the device to sleep. I can see the magnet and I am putting it in "face in". Also, I have been using RIM devices since '99 from teh 850/950 to the 957 to the 7280 to the 7290 to the 8700... so I know I have all of the profile, screen/keyboard, security settings correct.

How would they know you opened the case??? It's impossible to tell...atleast from what I can see. Basically remove back cover, then use a T6 and remove the 3 screws on the back. Remove battery, use a small flat screw driver and where the battery usually sits there is a little notch on the top left, and bottom right, stick screwdriver in the top left notch, and the back case will pop off, then use T6 to remove additional 4 screws, and take front cover off. Then you will have to take the plastic part off the hardware and will see back button, it sits in a little circle, just take it out and put it back in, put hardware back on plastic, and test it, should work.

Wear and tear on the screw heads, scratches, etc. Alignment of antenna cable, bottom line is I would not risk it. Trust me they can tell. Bottom line here is it worth it? If something else goes wrong that you cant fix and have to send it back for replacement and they challenge you, what will you do? I can see trying that if the unit was out of warranty and you had nothing left to loose.

Exclamation My Blackberry fell in water

My blackberry fell in water.
I quickly took the battery out and dried the unit thank God it was in leather case. it helped from getting too wet.
I looked on line and found this site.
Thanks for helping me take it apart.
After i dryed everything and blasted it with dust off (can air)
I put it in a plastic ziplock with 2 packs of Silica the stuff that comes with most electonics to keep it dry.
it sat in the sun for 8 hours
all is well it still works.
BTW it's out of warranty.

Simply call it in for warranty . . . you may have to cough-up S/H for the replacement, which mind you, may be new or refurbished unit.
