Hi, I just ordered my 8700c. Can anyone tell me if my old 7290 chargers (wall, auto, usb) will work with the 8700 without problem? Thanks in advance.

Update: according to shopblackberry.com, YES - 7290 & 8700 can share power accessories.

I have a 7280 and the chargers are the same.

No doubt about it, all the chargers are the same.

what about the 7130e - does it still use the usb-mini too?

Having replaced a 7290 with an 8700, I thougt the same thing. After a couple of weeks of use. I noticed something funny. While browsing these forums with the the 8700, while charging with the 7290 charger, I noticed the charging signal (Lightning Bolt) would return and the go away periodically. Researching this, I checked both chargers, the 7290 has an output rating of 0.5 Amps, while the 8700 has a rating of 0.75 Amps. At least, that's what's on my chargers.

If the 8700c required 750maH then it would not be able to charge off of the USB ports on computers because computer USB ports are only 500maH.

My guess is, that there might be some sort of weird charging mechinisim that charges the battery all the way, and then turns off charging, and then when the battery is run down a little it'll recharge again. That would explain why the charge symbol was going on and off.

But that would be a strange way to charge a battery.

That may be true, but the ratings are there. I'll monitor this for a while and post my observations.

rcbjr, any update on this? i too am wondering if i can use my 7100t charger on my 8700c. and i did also notice the 7100 charger has an output of .5 amps whereas the 8700 charger has an output of .75 amps.

i know i should just try it, but i don't want to risk any damage to the 8700. i'm no electronics expert so i'm not risking it...........

I use the 7100t USB charger and the 7100t travel charger and they work perfectly.

No update, except that I now use the 8700 charger. It shouldn't make any difference except for charging time so I wouldn't worry.

I still think my battery life is lower but it makes through the day. Still looking for a backup battery, none of the Cingular stores have them yet.

I've been using my 7290 charger since the day I purchased my 8700r and I've never had any problems charging my berry be it via usb or plugged into the wall. Battery life is great. So far so good.

I never ordered an 8700 charger. I've had my 8700 for about a month now, and have been exclusively using my 7280 accessories - wall and car chargers. Everyrthing works great. This is a USB device, so I wouldn't expect things to be otherwise. In fact, so long as the device plug is mini-USB, I don't see any reason that one couldn't use the 7200 Blackberry chargers to recharge any other USB device, be it a camera, a navigation system, or a Tickle-Me-Elmo running Linux. As far as the .75A on the 8700 charger, all it means is that it might charge the 8700 faster than the .5A charger. If anything, the danger lies is using the 8700 charger on 7200 Blackberries.

The charger came with the BB in the original box

I generally use the USB to a computer, but I have used the wall charger too, I have a car charger around somewhere, I haven't tried it yet. Doubt I will, since my charge normally last 4 days and I am not traveling as much

I upgraded from a 7290 to an 8700 and, lazily, never bothered to unpack the (similar-looking) cables from the new BB box, using instead my 7290 ones. After several weeks, I've noticed no problems charging via the AC wall charger, the USB-to-computer cable or even the third-party cigarette charger in my truck. I also haven't encountered the "lightning bolt" symbol popping on/off.
