8700 not going to sleep I am new to BB( thus the low post count) but I am a big fan so far. I ran with the 7100G for 2 weeks and jumped to the 8700 when I heard it was coming. The 7100G would go to sleep (or shut off the backlight) when put in the holster. Is this a standard for BBs? I have heard mention of it before but did not know if it was 7100G specific. My 8700C does not shut down when put in the holster. Is this normal? If not - is there a setting in the Keyboard/ screen area that I am missing? Or a fix... TIA for any help, JP |

57 views and no replies...surely someone knows if "going to sleep" is standard when 8700 is put in the holster. Is there a setting I am missing that allows it to do this? Thanks, JP Edit: Do you put your Blacknerry in the holster with the screen facing in or facing out? It fits both ways. |
Perhaps this new thread may be your problem. |

Thanks... |
Me again- I seem to be talking to myself but finding some answers along the way anyway... My 8700 goes to sleep when put in the holster with screen facing in but not when facing out. Hard to tell because screen is hidden but it does. The 7100G went to sleep when the screen was facing out. Any comments?....Anyone... |
The normal set up is to have the screen facing in to protect it. |
yeah... face it in... bkbry hits magnet. turns off. duh.... :) |

Thanks for the reply. I was thrown off because the 7100G I had previously shut down when put in holster facing out and I got into that habit. I then tried it with the 8700 thinking that was the "right" way and it did not shut down. Facing in is smarter though now that I think of it. I appreciate you answering a newbie question but we are all newbies at one point and I did do a search for an answer first. Have a great day and weekend! |
Anybody have problems with the 8700 holster. Mine will not put the device to sleep. I can see the magnet and I am putting it in "face in". Also, I have been using RIM devices since '99 from teh 850/950 to the 957 to the 7280 to the 7290 to the 8700... so I know I have all of the profile, screen/keyboard, security settings correct. |
I have the same problem Called RIM and they told me to replace the unit. |
8700 not going to sleep Same problem here. |
How do you know when they aren't going into sleep mode? Does the display just turn off as soon as it's seated in the holster? If that's how it works, mine does that. |
Problem solved by swapping out plastic holsters |
Mine is device, not holster. Quote:
FOLLOW-UP*** Out of curiosity, I called RIM. They wanted me to reload the software. I declined on the grounds that it was a waste of my time. I am now calling Cingular back for my replacement. |
Plastic or Leather? RIM or 3rd Party provided Is this occurring with plastic or leather holsters? I've seen references to both even though I've heard that the only ones available are plastic. Also, were the holsters from RIM or from a 3rd party company? Thanks! |
The little magnet on the outside of your holster has fallen out. Simple as that. It has taken me two days and about 3 hours of research, tech support chat, scrolling through knowlege bases just to discover that a cummy little teeny magnet is the culprit. Look below the clip and if there is a small round empty indentation then that is exactly what has happened. Used to be a little magnet there. Now the question is: where to get a replacment magnet? It's a .02 item! But a new holster is $19.95. I have had zero luck finding a source for magnets or some idea of what size and strength magnet is needed. Very frustating. |
tordiway, welcome to the forums, The thread you posted in here is almost two years old. I'm guessing they've resolved their issues. Many times tou can find those small magnets at fabric stores. |
