Default 8700c Speakerphone - Full Duplex or Half?

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone know if the speakerphone is supposed to be full duplex or not? You would sure think a business device speakerphone would be, but after using it a bit it sure behaves like a half-duplex one.

I cannot find any specs that state this specifically.

Anyone? What has everyone's experience with the speakerphone (and the regular mic for that matter - seems to pick up background noise A LOT) been?

I haven't used my 8700 for voice yet but I am experiencing this with the 7130 and past BB devices

I don’t know the technical hardware the 8700c provides (F or H duplex), but I can tell you my experience has been favorable. Even in quasi noisy environments (offices, etc) the speaker didn’t cut out while the other party was talking in addition they couldn’t hear the majority of what was going on around me. However, I tried it the other day from the middle of the mall on Black Friday and it was not good – the speaker didn’t cut out and the volume was loud enough (I was holding it under my chin, so I could hear), but the party on the other end couldn’t distinguish my words from screaming children, frantic moms, yelling fathers, and ballistic bargain hunters.

Overall it has surpassed my expectations for use where you’d expect to be on the speakerphone (quite room, office, med-noisy environment, etc). If you are wanting to use the speakerphone from the floor of a manufacturing plant, on top of a freight train, or at a sporting even, this is not the solution for you……

Hope that helps.

Half duplex... like many business class speaker phone setups.

My GF and I both have the Blackberry 8700c on the Cingular network. When she throws me on speakerphone, I can't hear her half the time because her speaker isn't picking up her voice. Should she be putting the phone face down so the speaker is facing UP, or should she be putting it face up so that the speaker is facing the table?

I leave mine with the back to the table so I can see the keyboard.
