Default 8820 wiping

Newbie here...i picked up an 8820 that was locked. tried to unlock it and now its wiping and scrubbing......what does that mean?
am i up shit creek, what's my next move........thanks........rob

If you mean that it was asking for a password and you tried to unlock it 10 times and you failed, and now its wiping all the data off the phone and it will reset everything to factory default.

You will not be able to get the data back unless you had backed it up.
