NES Emulator useable on the 8700?
Any brave souls out there, give this emulator a shot if you have time, report to the speed and playability of this Nintendo emulator working on the new Blackberry 8700:
subscribing to this thread...im not brave enough, but i hope someone else is!
so it looks like the intel chips provide some expansion
Now that BBs are backed by INTEL, things are gonna get interesting on the application front.
(waiting to hear if anyone tries this)
well, the change in platform should make many applications possible:
a) Content and graphics rich games
b) Emulators for video game systems (NES, SNES, MAME, etc)
c) Mp3 playback (already possible!)
d) Mp3 streaming (shoutcast, internet radio, etc!)
Okay i managed to install vNES on my 8700c but it is so jumpy i cant even play mario bros. i created the .cod file from the .jar but i cant seem to get the speed settings right. Anybody else want to try i can give you instructions on how i got it to work
Entropy666- can you please forward me instructions on what you did to get it to work?
I will try to do that when i get the first chance. The basic instructions are for using any java midlet that can be found in the forum. Then you create an ALX file for it (Just use another one from another program as a starting point) and then transfer it to your blackberry.
You can search for the vampent vNes emulator on google. I am at a client right now so i cant go into futher detail until later.
Hey , a noob to the forum and came across this gem. Any word on the Emulator working correctly? Would love to pass the time at work doing something other than playing party poker......
I installed the vNES emulator and a couple of ROMs on my 8700, and although the games load and play, it is really choppy, to the point where it is unplayable. I am really surprised by that since it should have enough resources to play, even running on top of Java.
If you're not feeling adventurous enough to load this on your own handheld, you can download and install the BlackBerry Java Development Environment v4.1 which includes device simulators. You'd use this program to convert the .jar to a .cod file anyway. You can just go to C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.1.0\simulator, load one of the handheld simulators using one of the .bat files, and then load the COD for vNES by going to File -> Load Java Program.
the controls are messed. but it runs ok (bit choppy) on an 8700r. I installed an older compiled version that someone posted on this forum though, it had donkey kong and galaga(?).
